Basically, satellite is a moon, planet or machine that orbits a planet or star. For example, Earth is a satellite because it orbits the sun. Likewise, the moon is a satellite because it orbits Earth. Usually, the word "satellite" refers to a machine that is launched into space and moves around Earth or another body in space.

Satellites come in many shapes and sizes. But most have at least two parts in common - an antenna and a power source. The antenna sends and receives information, often to and from Earth. The power source can be a solar panel or battery. Solar panels make power by turning sunlight into electricity.

The Bangabandhu Satellite-1 (BS-1), will be the first Bangladeshi geostationary Communicationsa Satellite. Bangabandhu-1 satellite is named after the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bangabandhu Satellite-1 (BS-1)

The manufacturer of The Bangabandhu Satellite-1 (BS-1) is famous aerospace manufacturing company “Thales Alenia Space”. Thales Alenia Space was selected as prime contractor to provide turnkey systems, including design, production, testing services for the Bangabandhu Satellite -1 satellites. The scope of the contract also includes the development of ground segment. Bangabandhu Satellite -1 satellite’s communications module integration work is being carried out at Thales Alenia Space plant located at Toulouse in France. The critical design review of Bangabandhu Satellite -1 satellite was completed in January 2017. The service module for the satellite is being manufactured at Cannes and satellite mating is expected to be completed by March 2017.

Spacecraft properties of Bangabandhu Satellite -1 based on Space bus 4000B2 platform. Its launch mass will 3500 KG or 7700 lb. Its power will 6 kW. The mission will start at US time 10^th May 2018. A brand-new rocket will carry the satellite named Falcon 9 Block 5. The satellite will be launched aboard from Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39, SpaceX launch site at Cape Canaveral, Florida, US.

The orbital Parameters will regime “GEO” and longitude will 119. 1°E.The satellite is built with 40 transponders and among those Bangladesh will use 20, and the rest will be sold to other countries like the Philippines, Indonesia and Saarc countries.
